What's a quango?

Oh.

quango
Any administrative body that is nominally independent but relies on government funding; for example, the British Council (1935), the Equal Opportunities Commission (1975) in the UK, and the Environmental Protection Agency (1970) in the USA.
The growth of quangos in the UK represented one aspect of the Conservative government's (1979–97) policy of reducing the size of the central government machine.

After deciding that there's only so much patronising and delegating a girl can take without beating boss into bloody pulp with black gel keyboard wrist rest (sounds harmless, but suspect would have same effect as large black rubber dildo ala Lock Stock). That mental image alone, not only prompts a flicker of glee across my face as I imagine him cowering "Not the dildo!", but has made me realise I can't stay here. Not on this wage. Not with a chauvinistic boss who implies that any female younger than him is lesser than him, and shouldn't she be typing dictation for him? Naturally, he doesn't want me to feel like I am "just an admin assistant." Which would be a good thing, as that is not my job title. Unfortunately it is inherently implied in his tone, that in his eyes, I AM an admin assistant, who, if I am a very good girl, I might even be permitted to WRITE sometimes.

So, the moral of the story? I've found another job to apply for. And I wants it, preciousssss. It's doing research/advising/media for the local government majority party. Part of me is scared of getting my hopes up. The other part is scratching at the walls to be released, and my nails, well, they're not long enough for digging. Perhaps I should grow them... I could always use them to scratch his eyes out.

Being the tourist that I am, it's difficult to sell myself as knowledgeable of the innermost workings of the political wing of the council (although I am aware of the gossip, but that's hardly something you can drop into an interview, is it?). As the job description says 'researcher' I thought I might get some practice - until quango threw me and the next thing you know I am procrastinating by setting up a new blog - just what every girl needs.
